Interfaces of Heritage and Memory: A Conversation with Sharon Macdonald and Ann Rigney
Moderated by Susanne Knittel and Birgit Meyer.
Join us for this conversation with two leading scholars in the fields of Heritage and Memory Studies!
We will talk about the relationship between these two scholarly communities and fields of study: what are the points of convergence and divergence between memory and heritage? How do these fields approach the past, and especially difficult heritage and disturbing memories? We will discuss how Macdonald and Rigney conceive of the dialectic of memory and forgetting, how they view the discussions around colonial pasts and collections, and the role of memory and heritage in activism, especially in the current moment, when the instrumentalization of the past for anti-democratic ends is on the rise.
This event is free, but please register by sending an email to Mohana Zwaga (m.j.zwaga@uu.nl).
